Those who can’t work with him are right to go. It’s a bit like football, if you can’t back the manager and accept his tactics then there’s no point in being in the team. All managers need to change the team from time to time and no player is bigger than the team. As we’ve just seen there are plenty of talented people waiting in the wings to take over from those who have just gone. It’s really important that Labour politicians remember it is the party not the individual that matters because we exist to represent the interests of the majority and that means putting others first. All the speculation about the PM and the government is bad for our economy as evidenced by the recent drop in the pound. The financial markets trust the PM and they realise that the last thing our economy needs right now is the uncertainty which a surprise election would provoke. Obviously David Cameron continues to demand a General Election because that is the mantra of all opposition leaders but closer inspection of the council elections and latest opinion polls suggest that the Tories cannot guarantee that they would win the election or achieve a working majority. The last thing we need is a government which can’t be certain about its economic policies because it can’t command parliament. Gordon Brown needs to concentrate on two things: sorting out the expenses disaster which has affected all parties and disappointed the public; and, getting us through the recession and setting us on a prosperous course for the future. That’s the really important stuff not who likes who or who is good looking or who sounds nice on TV. I care that the person with the most knowledge is in the right job and at the moment the man with the best ability to steer our economy through the recession is Gordon Brown. Best wishes Steve McCabe Show less »
