"Citizens should have statutory rights to enforce their human rights in the UK courts. We will by statute incorporate the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law to bring these rights home and allow our people access to them in their national courts. The incorporation of the European Convention will establish a floor, not a ceiling, for human rights. 1997 Labour Party’s General Election Manifesto Should legal obstacles arise we will legislate further, including, if necessary, amending the Human Rights Act in respect of the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Prime Minister Tony Blair, 5 August 2005 Do these statements constitute a 'broken promise' regarding human rights?"

"Following the announcement of emergency Rule being invoked in Pakistan, you have urged President Mushareff to "harness the power of democracy." Is it possible that our Western idea of "Democracy" just doesn't work for every country in the World - China is doing perfectly well without it and Iraq was doing much better without it - so would we be better off leaving other countries to work out for themselves what kind of government they want?"

"Isn't the comparison of values between countries very difficult? Kim Howells recently spoke about the UK and Saudi Arabia sharing values. At the same time it has been made clear we don't share values with Burma. Are there some values we don't share with Saudi Arabia and some we do with Burma? "

"Could you explain your comments about the lesson of the US withdrawal from Vietnam-that it led to 'the killing fields and the terrorists following us home'? Am I wrong in thinking that the Vietnamese stopped Pol Pot's mass murder and that there is no recorded instance of Vietnamese attacks on US soil?"
