Show more »Hello, I am a current resident in the Cathays area of Cardiff, and I am enquiring about the levels of seagulls. I think it is a disgrace that we let these vicious birds fly round in our urban areas, simply causing untidiness. I would like to know what the council intends on doing to solve this ever growing problem. Not one week has gone by where I haven't had to walk on the road to avoid the bins ripped open by scavenging seagulls. I am fully aware of the rules on bin collection, that you should only put them on the street from 4:30pm the afternoon before, though I can honestly say, this does not stop the seagulls. I am also aware that a cull of seagulls is not illegal, and perhaps it would be in the councils best interests to have a cull. If there is less littering caused by seagulls, there is less money that has to be spent cleaning up after them. When I first arrived to Cardiff 2 years ago, I would recommend to friends and family to visit the area, as it was one of the cleanest cities I have visited. Though in recent times, standards have dropped, and not for one second do I accept the budget cuts to be a reason. If money was seriously tight, then might I suggest cleaning the roads outside the Welsh Assembly Government (on Museum Ave) less? I walk down that road at least twice a day and I find it bemusing how often you see road sweepers going up and down, clearing away the odd leaf here or there, and yet 2 minutes walk away, it looks like someone has walked down the street kicking over bins. I am suggesting something that shouldn't be hard to deliver, though would dramatically improve the standards of Cardiff, while bringing better environmental health aspects, including; less chance of diseases spreading and less growth in rat population. I look forward to your response Regards Show less »

Show more »Dear Jenny I'd like to lend support to your campaign about the further change in pension age for women due to retire at 64 who must now wait until 66. As a young woman I took the adivice to plan fo rthe future and arranged all my pension policies for an expected state pension date of 60. Then it was changed to 64 and now to 66. I feel distressed as now I am older any additional contract for the missing 6 years is prohibitively expensive now I am older. In the interim I had potentially lost £5K per year from age 60 a total of £30k. As I'll have to work, I shall still have to continue with National Insurance payments which would have stopped if I'd been drawing the pensionIf I had known this I would have taken steps. I'm left witha real shortfall so I hope that, with support, you might be able to influence at least the problem of the second raising of state pension age for people like me. Hope you can force some changes! Roz Tritton Show less »

Show more »RE: Fish Discards and the 2012 CFP Reform Dear Jenny Willott MP, As one of your constituents, I am writing to ask you to attend and vote in favour of a motion due to take place at the House of Commons, Main Chamber, on Thursday 12 May, 3-6pm, (please see attached at the end of this email) which calls on the government to vote against the proposed EU reform of the CFP unless certain essential conditions, outlined in the motion, are met. Discarding causes a senseless waste of food and I want this shameful practice to end. I am also deeply concerned that the reformed CFP will not contain the appropriate sustainability, scientific and management conditions in order to provide long-term security for Europe’s fishermen. As my representative to parliament, I urge you to vote in favour of the motion. I would be grateful if you were able to let me know if you will be attending the debate. Show less »

Show more »The Centre for Welfare Reform has shown comprehensively that 25% of the cuts fall on the 3% of the population who are most severely disabled. £9bn of the total £89bn deficit cutting programme affects disabled people directly "Another news story that became apparent was that the Liberal Democrats have broken yet another promise. More accurately, they voted with the Government on the Welfare Reform Bill Committee to remove the mobility component from claimants in residential care, despite a motion on opposing restrictions to mobility component at the Spring Conference. I have touched upon this story before, but had to wait for the Hansard records of the meeting to be published. As these records show, the Liberal Democrat MPs Ian Swales and Jenny Willott actually left the room when this issue was put to vote, meaning that the amendment tabled to oppose the Government's plans was defeated. Liberal Democrat members should hold their MPs to account for this further betrayal. The records also show that Jenny Willott had stooped to the level of voting against one of her own amendments, presumably in order not to upset Government whips." Please can you explain your actions in regard to the above quote from the Broken of Britain website. Thank you Show less »

Does this mean existing schemes could be wound up? So could you clarify whether your proposal would effect existing child trust funds. Show less »

There were a number of elements in the Bill that were important to get through, but others were far too rushed, too controversial and didn’t have the opportunity for proper public debate and consultation. The Lib Dems voted against the Bill at the Third Reading and have consistently opposed the Labour and Conservative web-blocking amendment in both the Commons and the Lords. I completely understand the general reaction of the public. I have had a huge number of e-mails on this issue, all very angry at the Government’s decision to push through the Bill with very little debate and without proper votes. Show less »

I have been extremely disappointed by the Government’s refusal first of all to set up an inquiry and then to implement the recommendations of the independent report chaired by Lord Archer. I am still fighting to get people infected with HIV and Hepatitis C the compensation and justice they deserve. I met the Minister responsible in the Autumn and was frustrated by how little she was prepared to move on the Archer recommendations, but Government moves slowly and I was glad to see that in the week before Parliament was dissolved they finally decided to move forward the review of compensation payments for those with Hepatitis C from 2014 to later this year. Hopefully this will see better compensation for those affected and in a much more realistic time frame. Finally, the Lib Dem manifesto includes a commitment to create a working group to determine compensation for the victims and their families. We are the only major party to include any reference to the scandal in our manifesto and I’m proud that we are committed to putting right this wrong. Show less »

I read in theObserver 23.08.09 of your involvement in and concern about the CRB checks issue. I would ask if you will do everything you can to get rid of the sheer stupidity, cost and frustration , of the need for an individual to have separate CRB clearance for being employed in the same line of work in different locations.I have friends here in my area who work for several Residential Care Homes often under the direction of an agency. Each individual post requires a separate submission. Contrary to the Observer article`s intimation, it is the indivual, low-paid person who must pay for these CRB checks and suffer the delays that are inherent in a flawed system. What if we all needed to apply for a separate passport for each different country we visited? The stupidity is self-evident. Power to your elbow Jenny. Show less »

Show more » I totally agree with you that the current CRB system is an administrative nightmare. While it is very important that people working with children, older people or vulnerable people go through proper checks, requiring people to have a separate check for each separate place they work is a waste of time, waste of money and will only discourage people who are wiling to give up their time in a voluntary capacity. I have been contacted by supply teachers who need a separate CRB check for each local authority area in which they work, which is daft, particularly in a compact area like South Wales or Greater London, where it is normal to work across a number of council areas. Not only is it a nightmare for the individual applicant, but it also creates far more work than is necessary for the Criminal Records Bureau and costs a huge amount of money. We have included a pledge in our manifesto to reform the CRB system so that people only require one, portable, Criminal Records Check. This is a firm promise and something we are totally committed to doing. Show less »
