By contrast if a SIWKY (single income with kids) earns that same sum, they are taxed nearly £8000 more. Not only do they have childcare and all the periphery costs that go with having children, but they are generally more stressed and in need of help. It would be fairer if there was some way for young families to 'share' a salary for tax reasons when one of them chooses not to work in favour of raising their children. It strikes me as odd that a government which is constantly stating that it puts the family first, and is facing a youth crisis due to poor/absent parenting hasn't picked up on this point. Do the Conservatives have any fiscal policy which may go some way to easing the current burden on the SIWKY? Show less »
