Show more »The UK has been a notable supporter of the responsibility-to-protect principle, under which when sovereign states fail to protect their citizens from mass atrocity, through incapacity or ill will, it becomes the collective responsibility of the international community to take appropriate action and sovereign immunity no longer applies. How can responsibility to protect be seen as a genuine - binding - responsibility when behind it ultimately sits the absolute immunity that the United Nations claims for itself and its agents, as for example in the case of the failure of the United Nations and the Netherlands, through incapacity or ill will, to protect civilian refugees entrusted to their safe-keeping from genocide at Srebrenica? How would you propose resolving this fundamental failure of accountability? Show less »

I ask because ratifying the Lisbon treaty is clearly not the will of the people and would be a hugely unpopular move for an already unpopular Government. Show less »

Show more »Citizens should have statutory rights to enforce their human rights in the UK courts. We will by statute incorporate the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law to bring these rights home and allow our people access to them in their national courts. The incorporation of the European Convention will establish a floor, not a ceiling, for human rights. 1997 Labour Party’s General Election Manifesto Should legal obstacles arise we will legislate further, including, if necessary, amending the Human Rights Act in respect of the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Prime Minister Tony Blair, 5 August 2005 Do these statements constitute a 'broken promise' regarding human rights? Show less »

Show more »Yaseen asked this question here: www.yoosk.com/fco: What is UK doing regarding the criminal activities and war crimes committed by Israel against the people of Gaza. It is a shame on anyone to stay silent, speacially in a position of power like a forign minister. I want to be able to visit my family, which I am not allowed to, because of the Israeli imposed closure if Gaza, denying them the most basic human rights. It is disgracefull, that you are allowing it to happen while watching silently. Show less »
