    Nobody believes that food would be cheaper and better quality if we had a state bureaucratic monopoly National Food Service (NFS) instead of Tescos, Sainsburys and literally tens of thousands of other... Show more »Nobody believes that food would be cheaper and better quality if we had a state bureaucratic monopoly National Food Service (NFS) instead of Tescos, Sainsburys and literally tens of thousands of other private market participants from market stalls to fancy restaurants. Yet food is vital, go a few weeks without it and your dead. But no one in this country starves even the poorest or homeless. Sometimes the state will step in and pay for some people, but the state never attempts to provide. Yet people imagine the only alternative to the National Health Service (NHS) is no healthcare at all. Does John Redwood think it is feasible to change this thinking in the UK, and one day to actually allow the market to raise standards of healthcare and provision for all. Even if the state is still paying for some, but not doing any of the provision? Show less »
