Our core budget information has been included in the leaflet we send to all households this month and we've also updated our residents set through regular updates in our magazine to all households. And later in the year when our first set of final accounts as Central Bedfordshire Council are published, we will also produce a summary version. Show less »

However, in my experience in Central Bedfordshire and in other authorities, Coucillors tend to take a balanced and longer term view when setting the budget rather than simply thinking about short term headlines. As representatives of the public, Councillors of course seek to develop and implement policies that will find favour with their constituents. Equallly, they need to consider a whole range of competing pressures for funding and need to weigh up both long term benefits as well as short term difficulties. This isn't easy. In the current economic circumstances, it simply isn't possible for our Members to avoid taking difficult decisions that will inevitably lead to some degree of public disatisfaction. Explaining how and why they've taken these decisions in an up front way seems to me to best way to help the public and the media understand - if not support - Councillors decisions. Show less »
Could you tell me where Bedford council stands regarding money invested in Icelandic banks? Did we invest anything and what are the chances now of recovering any losses, if indeed there were any?

However, I can assure local residents that neither of the two former District Councils or the County Council which previously served Central Bedfordshire had investments in Icelandic banks.
