Morning:
Plenary Welcome Session:
Welcome participants by presenting a series of videos depicting interviews with European citizens from a variety of European countries. Interviews focus on:
citizens views on, and understanding of, responsiblity and solidarity in today's Europe;
the economic crisis and its impact on European citizens and their families
Map your Moral and Political Views Group Session:
Participants split into groups of a maximum of 8 individuals where they:
1. are each asked to plot their moral and political views on an axis
2. discuss their reactions to the videos
3. each individual group member then completes a short questionnaire on their moral and political views, the results of which plot them on the moral/political axis
participants are then able to see whether their initial perception of their own views matches with the results of the questionnaire
4. participants then discuss each question indiviually in order to determine whether they can agree on a common answer
5. Finally the group scripts a collective response to 2 key questions:
A. What does solidarity mean to us as contemporary European citizens?
B. What does responsibility mean to us as contempoary European citizens?

Afternoon:
Group Presentations:
An elected member of each group presents a short summary of the mapping of views excercise along with the collective responses to the 2 key questions.
Plenary Debate on Responsibility and Solidarity in Today's Europe
(to include appropriate high level speakers)
Agenda Topics:
1. Europe's 2020 Strategy and its response to the economic crisis
2. The European Social Model in 2010 and beyond
3. The status of the welfare state in today's Europe
4. The role of collective bargaining in today's Europe
5. The relationship between state and individual citizen, and EU and individual citizen
6. Political and economic responsiblities of the contemporary European citizen
7. European level regulaton of financial institutions and markets
8. A unified European response to the current economic reality
The debate is the culminaton of the day's activities, and the fact that participants have been working in groups all day will ensure a more interactive debate.
The group presentation and debate will be filmed, thereby providing rich promotional material for the UK Commission & EP Representations
European Alternatives will advertise this event on our website (40,000 unique visits per month) through our email newsletter (approx. 10,000 subscribers) and through social media channels such as facebook and twitter.
