I am holder of  british passport with BNO status, I have three questions to ask foreign secretary. Firstly, Is FCO website suitable for BNO status to get information about travelling advice or living overseas? In the FCO website, is  "british nationals" this word the meaning of all categories of british status such as BC, BOC, BOTC, BS,BPP and BNO etc.. or only apply to british citizens?? Secondly, is BNO status a commonwealth citizen? Thirdly, we grew up under the sovereign of Great Britain before 1997, what time can we (BNO)  have the right of abode to the UK as british national or have any privileges for us??

I understand the FCO's notoriously unstable servers and systems have created UK visa crisis worldwide with almost no visas being issued since October 9th when the system went down. My girlfriend having worked damned hard to get a work permit for the UK is now stuck in the US while the biometric computer system writhes around in a fit.

Meanwhile the British consulates and embassies pull the shutters down and put their fingers in their ears. Apparently they are 'not authorised' to communicate with anyone. Not even on the FCO website to make people aware or manage expectations.

They are probably singing Bread of Heaven and rationing ammunition as I type.

    - Why is it that no communication channel has been provided and no announcements have been made?

People are suffering as a result of this and it is damaging British diplomatic relations around the globe.

    - How can we be trusted if we don't talk to people?

Show more »"My questions refer to the possibility of the EU offering an "Advanced Status" to Morocco.

Morocco continues to illegally occupy a large section of the Western Sahara. This is in violation of over 100 UN resolutions which acknowledge the Saharawi people's right to a self-determination referendum, and the International Court of Justice ruling that Morocco's claims to the territory are unfounded. The Moroccan Authorities take a heavy-handed approach to the Saharawis who campaign by peaceful means for self-determination. Hundreds are imprisoned without a fair trial, and face years enduring the most horrific forms of torture. These human rights abuses are well documented by NGOs such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Firstly, therefore, I would like to know if - in your opinion - Morocco's track record on human rights warrants the award of an "Advanced Status" ?

So far, 155 international organisations from 26 different countries have called on the EU not to grant Morocco "Advanced Status" unless the Western Sahara is excluded from the Agreement (see http://www.upes.org/body1_eng.asp?field=sosio_eng&id=1312 for a list of the organisations). Will Britain be actively encouraging the EU to comply with International Law in this case, (it failed to do so with respect to the 2006 EU - Morocco Fishing Agreements , which have allowed EU countries such as Spain to plunder the fisheries of occupied Western Sahara, without Saharawi consent)?" After all it can help encourage development in the African member states by encouraging investment, a free trade area for the commonwealth could work very well, you only have to look at NAFTA to see that such things can work. I feel that the commonwealth should be one of the top priorities alongside the UN and EU which are both also in dire need of reform." Show less »
