I have a question which only you can answer.
Of the one million British State Pensioners now living abroad after working in the UK and paying into the National Insurance Fund, half have their pensions annually indexed to help them deal with increases in the cost of living, but the other half have their basic pensions frozen with no indexing at all, leaving many of them unable to deal with these increases.
Please explain, honestly, as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, why our government plans to continue with this social injustice, unfairness and shabby treatment of our own old people, just because they, or the relatives they wish to live near, are living in, or moving to the "wrong" country. I have not seen any change mentioned in the manifestos of either the Conservatives or the Liberal Democrats despite friendly and understanding words from Nick Clegg and a welcome video reply on YOOSK from Peter Bottomley. I may of course be mistaken. I hope I am.
There is a surplus in the National Insurance Fund of 120 times the amount needed annually to immediately upgrade frozen pensions. It is there to use for pensions, among other services. Despite the present crunch, it is affordable. My question is: "Do you plan to treat all state pensioners fairly, no matter where in the world they live, or do you plan to keep the status quo?"
