There is no doubt that I do share this ground, and it is always a

beginning that we have a number of important beliefs in common.
However, it would be foolish to pretend that there are not important differences
between conservative Christianity and conservative Islam, not least the
differing attitudes to the nature of law, to pluralism and to
tolerance.
I am not sure what a 'natural ally' is, or how he differs from any
other kind of ally. I certainly do see all people of faith, who acknowledge the
sovereignty of God, as being allies on many subjects. But alliances, as
history shows, are restricted to the shared purposes of the allies at
the time.
I seek a Christian remoralisation of what I regard as a Christian
country, with laws and customs based upon Christianity. If Muslims are
happy to support that ( and actually I believe many are) then I am more
than glad of their support.
